The list is short, and it is set by the TLC — not by us.
- A current NYC TLC driver licence (for-hire vehicle)
- A valid New York State DMV driver licence
- A TLC-plated vehicle, or access to one
- Current TLC-compliant insurance on that vehicle
- A smartphone that runs the AXCL app (iOS or Android)
- Willingness to work as a 1099 independent contractor

From download to first trip
Four stops.
Everything happens in the AXCL app — there is no separate form to fill out. Most drivers are cleared and taking offers inside of a week.
Download AXCL and sign in
Install the app free from the App Store or Google Play, then create an account with your phone number. That account is where everything else happens.
Apply in the app
Choose BlueRyde and enter your TLC driver licence, your DMV licence and your vehicle details. It takes about two minutes and you can finish it on your phone in the parking lot.
Get verified
We confirm your TLC and DMV licences, your vehicle’s plates and your insurance. You can track where your application stands in the app, and if something is missing we tell you exactly what it is.
Start taking offers
Once you are cleared, go online and set the hours you want to work. Accept your first trip. Earnings land by next-day direct deposit, and your trip and payment history stay in the app.

How do I apply to drive for BlueRyde?
Through the AXCL app. Download it free from the App Store or Google Play, create an account with your phone number, choose BlueRyde, and enter your TLC driver licence, DMV licence and vehicle details. We verify everything and let you know in the app. There is no separate application form and nothing to mail in.
Is BlueRyde licensed by the TLC?
Yes. BlueRyde is a for-hire vehicle base licensed by the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission, base licence B03711. Every driver we dispatch holds a current TLC driver licence, and every vehicle carries TLC plates and TLC-compliant insurance.
Do I need my own car?
You need a TLC-plated vehicle you are permitted to drive. That can be your own car, a vehicle you lease, or one you already drive through another base. If you are not sure whether your vehicle qualifies, send us the plate and we will check.
What kind of trips will I get?
Passenger trips across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx booked through our transportation broker partners — a mix of on-demand requests that come in during your shift and scheduled trips you can claim ahead of time. Scheduled work tends to repeat, so drivers who want a predictable week can build one.
Do I have to work set hours?
No. You go online when you want to work and offline when you are done. Drivers who want steady, predictable volume usually claim scheduled routes; drivers who want flexibility stay on demand. Plenty do both.
How and when do I get paid?
Drivers work as 1099 independent contractors and are paid by next-day direct deposit — the trips you complete today land in your account the next business day. Every completed trip is recorded in the AXCL app, so your trip history and payment history are always in one place.
Which parts of New York City do you cover?
Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, with trip volume concentrated wherever our broker partners have accounts. Tell us where you are based and we will tell you what the work looks like in your area.
I already drive for another app. Can I drive for BlueRyde too?
Yes. As an independent contractor you are free to work with more than one base or platform. Many of our drivers use BlueRyde to fill the slow parts of their day with booked trips.
